Why Hip hop? Bright Black was born from our deep love of Hip hop. Hip hop, especially rhymes and beats from the 90s and 00s, made us feel seen, it made us feel heard, and it made us feel human. It captured our stories. The flow of hip hop moved us. Hip hop's lyricism rivals some of the greatest poetry of all time, standing up humor and irony and wit and character and plot like no other musical genre on the planet. Hip hop is as diverse as the Diaspora itself, sometimes smooth like a love song, other times hard and raw. But there's one thing that unites it all, Hip hop is innovative beyond belief and always, always real.
